The AEM Department offers both the Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. Graduate studies are necessary for those who wish to pursue a career in research or as a university faculty member. They are important for those who want to be involved in advanced design and product development. In the 2010 National Research Council rankings, the Doctoral Program in the AEM Department was ranked fourth in the nation. Graduate students work with faculty members on many interesting and important research projects and may receive financial support from the Department. There are a wide variety of research projects including nanotechnology, biomechanics of the lung, smart materials, computational and experimental fluid dynamics, formation flying of satellites, air traffic control, and autonomous aerospace vehicles. Since our graduate program concentrates on fundamentals, it is possible for students with undergraduate degrees in mathematics, physics, or other branches of engineering to pursue graduate studies in our Department. Students work in state of the art facilities and our faculty has an outstanding breath and depth of knowledge.
