Faculty members and students in the Fluid and Thermal Sciences (FTS) Group draw from the basic sciences of fluid mechanics, complex fluids, biomechanics, heat transfer and energy studies to address a wide variety of problems at the forefront of current research. The group combines an emphasis on the fundamentals with attention to applications in a broad range of industries.
The Fluids and Thermal Sciences group is a natural home for graduate students with backgrounds in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, aeronautical/aerospace engineering, physics and physical chemistry. Our research is conducted in close collaboration with faculty from other disciplines within the School of Engineering, as well as with faculty in Physics, Biology and Medicine, Evolutionary Biology, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science.
