You may submit a statement of purpose. The Statement of Purpose [SOP] is your personal statement about who you are, educational goals, professional interests, and how the University at Buffalo Masters Economics Programs fits in. Several successful SOPs address these questions through personal anecdotes or stories.

RECOMMENDATION LETTERS (OPTIONAL)
You may submit reference letters to support your admission to the Economics program. Reference letters should be from professors or former employers, but can be from anyone. Reference letters can be submitted the following ways:
a. Your referee can submit an online recommendation. In the recommendation section of this online application, you can submit three referees for online recommendations. When you enter their names and e-mail addresses, they will receive prompts to submit online recommendations (only after you submit the application for formal review).
b. Your referee can submit the recommendation letter in a sealed envelope with their signature on the seal and send it directly to the Assistant Director of the Graduate Program. You can also choose to collect recommendation letters on your own and submit them with your application materials. However, the envelopes must have referee signature on the seal.
c. Your referee can email Jameson Yu, the Assistant Director to the Graduate Programs your recommendation letter directly. This letter must reference the applicant’s name and must be from the referee’s email account. We will not accept forwarded email from referees.
Transcript
UNOFFICIAL OR OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPTS
You must upload an unofficial or official transcript or academic record for each institution (even if you didn't receive a degree) you indicated in the Educational Background section of the online application. These documents must be uploaded before you submit the application.
Non-English transcripts must be accompanied by an English translation. If possible, make sure the institution has put your name on the transcript/record. Do not mail in a copy of a transcript or academic record which you have uploaded to your online application, unless requested.
Non-legible scans will not be accepted. Please refer to the details below on uploading format.
Note: If you are recommended for admission, you will need to provide an official transcript. Your offer of admission will be contingent upon the receipt and verification of these official documents (which must show the award of degrees where appropriate.)
