Almost all international applicants must submit official test score results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Pearson Test of English (PTE-Academic). Test scores should be less than two years old. An applicant should submit the application within two years of the test date to ensure that the testing agency will be able to send an official score report.
Students who are citizens of the following English-speaking countries, or who have graduated from an English-speaking university within these countries, are exempt from this requirement: Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, USA, and the United Kingdom.
Please note that some departments (i.e., Politics) have strict guidelines and may require English proficiency scores from all international applicants. Please check with the department to which you are applying to see if it is a requirement.
Minimum Score Requirements for English Proficiency Exam
